RAFAEL_CHAPTER 6_CAYLEY_I

I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH MR CAYLEY. IN PAGE 210 HE CITES THE FOLLOWING: THE WORLD OF LETTERS HAD PLAYED A CRUCIAL ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITAL ART AND CULTURE.
THEN HE GOES ON: TEXT IS INDEED "THE WEB'S PRIMARY FOUNDATIONAL MEDIA"
I DISAGREE HERE. A BOOK PRIMARY FOUNDATION IS TEXT (PHONEMES), IN MAGAZINES TEXT (PHONEMES) BECOMES THE SECONDARY SOURCE AFTER PHOTOGRAPS. I THINK "EFFICIENCY" IS THE PRIMARY FOUNDATION OF THE NEW MEDIA.
VIVA ZAPATA!!!!!

What do you mean by "efficiency is the primary foundation of the new media."? I agree with you (as I stated in my post) on the issue at hand being "text is the web's primary foundational media." But for other reasons...

Isn't efficiency the primary foundation of every media? I think it begins with plain text, where we always have a limited number of letters. It goes on with more modern forms of media like film where every line and every shot have to make sense. It continues with the new media where the user should not get overwhelmed by too much information. For me the internet is text based, because it mostly is a web of text based information. Graphics are just embedded elements in here. But I think it starts with the question if you like to edit webpages visually or code based, so I think there will always be different views.

I think text is the foundational media on the Web. It is also the foundational media in Books and Magazines.

What was on the Web in its beginnings? The text.

Even though pictures help to make a magazine more entertaining, what would a magazine be without text? A photo album?

I think text will fade more and more. Think of what cantloupe does, video magazine... not so much text. Once internet gets faster there will be more sound pictures and video.

Text and efficency wouldn't really be in the same list in most of these senses.

The efficiency comes from the commercial nature of the societies in which the diital media have been created.

I love your pic man.
I really want to play golf with you ASAP.

In my idea, first of all you have to define 'efficiency' for affirming. is it related with economic demansion or spending time? if you think both, there are some flaws in your opinion.
